Payments that support the Swytch to more sustainable transportation

With its commitment to sustainable transportation that doesn’t cost the earth, Swytch is helping people convert their bikes into eBikes. Now the world's best-selling electric bike conversion kit, Swytch was launched in 2017 and has since gained global recognition and more than 91,000 customers in more than 100 countries. As a collective, Swytchers have ridden over 10 million electric miles.

The Swytch approach

Founded by engineers Oliver Montague and Dmitro Khroma, Swytch is a London-based startup with an industry-leading product and global recognition. The company is changing how people move by converting drivers into cyclists – by turning their normal pedal bikes into electric bikes at a fraction of the cost of a new e-bike.

As the business grew internationally, it experienced a growing number of failed payments across Europe, causing customer complaints to peak. Its incumbent payments provider could not respond with human customer service agents instead of robots as issues increased as traffic and sales rose. With a serious risk of business impact, Swytch needed a payments partner who could efficiently manage periodic sales campaigns and extreme spikes in revenue, where customers join a waitlist in anticipation of the next big product drop.

In 2020 Swytch found a solution through its partnership with Ecommpay.

The Ecommpay Difference

With a mission to make electric transport accessible to everyone, Swytch needed a payments partner that could support the business’s rapid evolution.

Working together, Swytch and Ecommpay tackled and resolved each pain point, smoothing the customer journey and dramatically reducing complaints:

  • Three months’ worth of pre-order payments are regularly processed in a single day without any impact on the processing speed and approval rate.
  • Customer complaints regarding failed payments have all but evaporated.
  • The partnership is collaborative, with the two businesses working together, learning from each other and delivering increased turnover and conversion from sales campaigns.

Apple Pay helped accelerate and streamline the payment process, joining a diverse range of payment methods and ensuring Swytch has ample payment options for its customers.

Reflecting the contribution the improved payment process has made to Swytch, alongside its investment in product development and marketing, turnover has increased exponentially.

In the early days working with Ecommpay, it was like ‘whack-a-mole’ – every few days, a new strange issue would pop up with a different payment method in a particular market. Every time a new one appeared, Ecommpay would resolve it quickly and effectively. Today, we have no issues. All payments are processed smoothly and in near real-time. Customer complaints regarding payments have plummeted.
Unlike our previous providers, we always speak to real humans within the Ecommpay business, and they truly understand our unique business requirements and restrictions. We have built a strong collaborative relationship in which we have complete trust.
Our team works closely with the Ecommpay developer team to deliver a customised solution, including a single-page checkout. We also offer every new payment method as soon as Ecommpay adds it to the platform - the more payment options our customers have, the better.
When we looked for a new partner, no other company understood the level of peer-to-peer relationship we needed. When we found Ecommpay, we felt heard for the first time, and that has remained consistent every day since.
